Ferrari Reigns Supreme: Robert Kubica Snags Historic Pole Position at COTA!

In an electrifying showdown at the Circuit of the Americas, Ferrari’s Robert Kubica has emerged victorious, clinching his maiden pole position in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) Hypercar category. The former F1 star, who has captured the hearts of motorsport fans worldwide, put on a breathtaking performance, clocking an astonishing time of 1:57.655. This remarkable achievement comes less than a tenth of a second ahead of his fellow Ferrari driver, Antonio Giovinazzi, who is currently leading the championship alongside his team-mates James Calado and Alessandro Pier Guidi.

Kubica, who shares his AF Corse-run Ferrari 499P Le Mans Hypercar with Philip Hanson and Yifei Ye, showcased his prowess on a damp track, expertly navigating slick tires to secure the coveted pole position. With a time that sent shockwaves through the paddock, he proved that he is not just a name from the past but a formidable force in the present racing arena.

Giovinazzi, despite his valiant effort of 1:57.751, found himself trailing Kubica, while Jean-Eric Vergne of Peugeot could only muster a time of 1:58.506, leaving him in third place—over seven tenths adrift from the Ferrari duo. The competitive spirit was palpable as Kevin Estre, driving the lone factory Penske Porsche 963 LMDh, managed to secure fourth place with a time of 1:58.619.

As the dust settled on the qualifying session, it was clear that the competition was fierce. Nicklas Nielsen in the second factory Ferrari claimed fifth with a time of 1:58.640, followed closely by Nicolas Varone in the customer Proton Competition Porsche, who had previously topped the timesheets in the first qualifying session.

Yet, not all was smooth sailing. The Peugeot team faced a setback when their #93 entry was disqualified from qualifying due to a technical infringement—specifically, the rear rain light was not activated during the wet session. This controversial decision means that Vergne and his crew will start the race from the back of the grid in 18th position, a bitter pill to swallow for a team eager to make their mark.

In the GT ranks, Ford made headlines as they dominated the LMGT3 class, with Proton Competition’s Mustang GT3s claiming the front row, marking a significant milestone for the American manufacturer. Giammarco Levorato stunned everyone by setting a blistering time of 2:07.645, while his teammate Ben Tuck momentarily overshadowed him during the session.

The Lone Star Le Mans six-hour race, the sixth round of the 2025 WEC, is set to ignite fierce competition as it kicks off at 13:00 local time on Sunday. With Kubica’s thrilling pole position and the drama of disqualifications, fans can expect nothing short of an unforgettable race that will keep them on the edge of their seats!

Get ready for an adrenaline-fueled showdown as the world watches to see if Ferrari can convert this pole position into a resounding victory!
