Rising NASCAR Star Corey Heim’s Uncertain Future: Will He Leave 23XI amid Antitrust Lawsuit?

Corey Heim, a rising star in the Truck Series, has finally achieved a significant milestone in his career, securing a developmental deal with 23XI Racing. The 22-year-old NASCAR prodigy, who has been making waves since his debut in 2021, is slated to participate in select Cup Series races in 2025. Heim’s impressive record includes 12 victorious runs, many of which were at Tricon Garage. This opportunity with 23XI Racing not only symbolizes overdue recognition, but also a chance for him to compete against the titans of NASCAR. Denny Hamlin, co-owner of 23XI Racing, has spoken highly of Heim, reinforcing the potential of this partnership.

However, the uncertainty surrounding 23XI Racing, due to an ongoing lawsuit, has raised doubts about the longevity of Heim’s association with the team. Could this be a mere stepping stone for Heim before he moves on to other ventures?

Hamlin has expressed optimism about Heim’s inclusion in the team. After having been a competitor in 2024, Heim is now a part of 23XI Racing, the team co-owned by Michael Jordan. This part-time involvement sets the stage for a full-time role in the future, a prospect that undoubtedly excites Heim. In addition to this, Heim will also be showcasing his skills in the Xfinity Series for Sam Hunt Racing, further sharpening his prowess.

Despite the excitement, Heim’s future with 23XI Racing remains uncertain. The team already boasts of talents like Bubba Wallace, Tyler Reddick, and Riley Herbst in the Cup Series. The ongoing anti-trust lawsuit against NASCAR further complicates the team’s future. If the verdict goes against them, it could drastically impact Heim’s tenure with the team.

Given Heim’s rapid ascent through the Toyota Development Program, there will be no shortage of options for the young racer, should he decide to part ways with 23XI Racing. Joe Gibbs Racing and Legacy Motor Club are prime possibilities. The question then becomes – who would Heim replace?

Legacy Motor Club, where Heim has already made three Cup Series appearances, could be a feasible destination. While all of this remains speculative, the possibility of Heim switching teams cannot be dismissed, particularly if 23XI Racing’s future is jeopardized by the lawsuit.

As Heim prepares to embark on this exciting chapter with 23XI Racing, he will be driving the No. 67 Toyota Camry, with Robert “Bootie” Barker serving as crew chief. This is not Heim’s first foray into the Cup Series, having previously filled in for Legacy Motor Club’s Erik Jones.

Upon the official announcement, Heim expressed his elation, stating, “It‘s a dream come true to be a part of 23XI, and I‘m excited for the opportunity to race more Cup and Xfinity races this year.” He further acknowledged the success of 23XI and expressed gratitude towards Toyota for their continued support in his development, both on and off the track.

While a full-time spot in the Cup Series seems inevitable for Heim, he remains committed to the NASCAR Truck Series. Having finished as runner-up last year, he aims to secure a victory at Phoenix Raceway before potentially transitioning to a full-time role with 23XI Racing in 2026. This taste of triumph would be the perfect end to his Truck Series journey and a promising start to his new chapter with 23XI Racing.
