Ricciardo’s Future in F1 Still in the Air Despite Fastest Lap Heroics and his comments after the race of Singapore, Says Christian Horner

Christian Horner has hinted that Daniel Ricciardo’s F1 career might not be over just yet, despite ongoing speculation about his potential replacement at Red Bull’s sister team, Visa Cash App RB. The Australian driver, under scrutiny for a lackluster season with only 12 points to his name, managed to stir the pot at the Singapore Grand Prix by snatching the fastest lap from Lando Norris, denying the McLaren driver an extra point crucial in his championship fight against Max Verstappen.

Red Bull had initially planned to make a decision on Ricciardo’s future immediately after Singapore, but Horner has called for patience. With a month-long gap between races, Horner explained that Red Bull now has the perfect window to thoroughly evaluate their options. “We’ve got time to reflect on the situation,” Horner noted, suggesting that the break allows the team to weigh all possibilities for the 2025 season, including whether Ricciardo should remain on the grid or make way for rising star Liam Lawson.

Horner praised Ricciardo’s drive in Singapore, acknowledging his strategic play in setting the fastest lap and indirectly aiding Verstappen’s championship defense. “Daniel’s fastest lap was a clever move,” Horner admitted. “It showed he still has the skill and the drive to make a difference.” Verstappen, who finished second behind Norris, expressed gratitude to his former teammate, acknowledging how critical that single point could be in the title race.

Despite the praise, Ricciardo’s F1 future remains murky. Red Bull will use the upcoming break to assess his performance thoroughly and decide whether he fits into their long-term plans. Horner stressed the importance of making a calculated decision, noting, “We need to consider what’s best for the team moving forward.”

While Ricciardo’s fastest lap showcased his tenacity and strategic prowess, it may not be enough to secure his seat. As Red Bull weighs their driver lineup options, the Australian’s position in F1 hangs in the balance. For now, Horner is holding off on any definitive announcements, leaving the door slightly ajar for Ricciardo’s continued presence in the sport.
