Ricciardo penalized with a three-position drop on the grid for Miami

Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo from team RB has received a penalty that will see him start three positions down on the grid for the upcoming Miami Grand Prix in Formula 1. This penalty stems from an incident during the Chinese Grand Prix, where Ricciardo was pushed off the track by Lance Stroll from Aston Martin in the corner. As the race was preparing to restart, Nico Hulkenberg overtook Ricciardo, but Ricciardo managed to overtake him again after the race was neutralized once more. However, the stewards determined that Ricciardo’s overtake was not allowed, as Hulkenberg had overtaken him under earlier safety car conditions in the race. Ricciardo subsequently retired from the race due to damage sustained from the collision with Stroll. In addition to a 10-second time penalty and two penalty points, Ricciardo’s retirement means that the penalty will be converted into a grid drop for the Miami Grand Prix. It is unclear whether the penalty applies to the Sprint Race or the main grand prix, as the decision only mentions the “next race.”
