Aston Martin is pushing the envelope with the introduction of the AMR25, their contender for the 2025 Formula 1 campaign. The British luxury sports car and grand tourer manufacturer has announced that the AMR25 is virtually a brand-new machine, with almost everything about it being revamped.
The AMR25 was revealed to the public at the recent F1 75 season launch event in London. The Silverstone-based team unveiled the same exact livery that will grace their cars throughout the forthcoming season. The company’s revised British Racing Green color scheme was initially showcased on a demo car. Aston Martin is now the seventh team to announce its 2025 machine.
The launch of the AMR25 comes on the back of a challenging season for Aston Martin. Despite holding onto fourth place, the team scored 186 points less than in the previous year in 2024. Amidst this, the company decided to make changes in its technical leadership. Dan Fallows left his position as Technical Director following issues with mid-season developments, paving the way for a reshuffling of roles.
Mike Krack has since transitioned to a trackside-focused role, and Andy Cowell, who joined the team in October, has taken over as Team Principal. Cowell also serves as the group CEO. As part of their ambition to compete for the title, Aston Martin is making these structural changes in anticipation of the regulatory overhaul slated for 2026.
Despite the challenges, Aston Martin remains committed to overhauling the AMR24’s successor with a comprehensive redesign. The team’s goal with the AMR25 is to create a more stable and predictable car, leaving behind the volatile nature of its predecessor.
According to Cowell, the team believes that a more stable car will enhance race performance. Aston Martin has invested considerable effort over the winter to develop a car that is close to 100% new in terms of its aerodynamic package. This level of investment was possible thanks to the capabilities of the design and operations team at the company’s campus.
The new car, AMR25, will be the last to start a season without input from legendary designer Adrian Newey. From next month, Newey will serve as Managing Technical Partner, overseeing Aston Martin’s work on the next-generation cars for 2025. He will work alongside former Ferrari Technical Director, Enrico Cardile.
Aston Martin and McLaren are the only two teams retaining their driver line-ups for 2025. Fernando Alonso will partner with Lance Stroll for the third consecutive season. Both drivers expressed excitement about the upcoming season and confidence in the team’s preparations.
The launch of the AMR25 is a pivotal moment for Aston Martin as they seek to improve upon their past performance. The upcoming season will be a litmus test for their revamped team structure, technical leadership, and the new AMR25. All eyes will be on Aston Martin as they hit the track with their fresh challenger in the 2025 Formula 1 campaign.
