Stellantis’ Racing Revolution: Opel Poised to Dominate Formula E!

Revolution is brewing in the world of motorsport as Opel, a major car brand under Stellantis, gears up to make a grand return to world championship competition by potentially joining Formula E in 2026. Recent high-level discussions within Stellantis Motorsport have singled out Opel as the frontrunner to represent the powerhouse company in the upcoming Gen4 era of Formula E.

Having become part of the Stellantis family in 2021, Opel boasts a rich history in motorsport, particularly in rallying where it clinched the 1982 World Rally Championship drivers’ title. The brand also made its mark in junior single-seater competition and various touring car series over the years. Now, with the possibility of entering Formula E, Opel is set to shake up the electric racing scene.

Stellantis Motorsport’s Senior Vice President, Jean-Marc Finot, hinted at Opel’s potential involvement in Formula E, stating that the brand’s current E-Rally program with the Opel Corsa is a step in the right direction. The electrifying racing series is eagerly anticipating Stellantis’ decision on which brands will partake in the Gen4 era, with CEO Jeff Dodds expressing enthusiasm about the prospect of collaborating with Stellantis’ impressive lineup of brands.

As Stellantis deliberates on its Gen4 strategy, the company faces various options for its participation in Formula E. While partnerships with independent entities like Penske and the Monaco Sports Group are currently in place, Stellantis is contemplating owning a team outright for the upcoming season. This potential shift in strategy could mark a new chapter for Stellantis in Formula E and bring forth a fresh wave of competition in the series.

With the Gen4 development phase set to commence soon, the motorsport community eagerly anticipates Stellantis’ final decision on its Formula E lineup. Aside from Opel’s likely entry, speculations point towards DS Automobiles and Citroen as potential contenders to join the electrifying racing series. As the countdown to the Gen4 era begins, all eyes are on Stellantis as it prepares to make a groundbreaking entrance into Formula E with its esteemed brands.
