In a shocking turn of events, 36 influential automobile clubs have thrown their unwavering support behind FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem, dealing a significant blow to any potential challengers, including two-time world rally champion Carlos Sainz Sr.

The letter of support, signed by a plethora of FIA clubs primarily from the Americas, praises Ben Sulayem for his leadership, vision, and the successful implementation of crucial reforms during his tenure. Despite facing criticism for various controversial decisions, such as barring FIA members from meetings and enforcing a ban on swearing, the 63-year-old Emirati president has managed to secure widespread backing from key figures within the automotive community.

The letter addressed to Ben Sulayem reads, “We are all acutely aware of the catastrophic financial situation you inherited. Without the decisive and bold actions you took from day one, the very future of the FIA would have been at risk.” The signatories commend Ben Sulayem for his efforts in repositioning the FIA as a global leader in both mobility and motorsport, highlighting the growth and strength of the FIA brand under his stewardship.

Notable names supporting Ben Sulayem include Fabiana Ecclestone, wife of Bernie Ecclestone and FIA vice president for sport, as well as various presidents of motorsport federations from countries like Colombia, Mexico, Brazil, and many more. The overwhelming backing from these influential figures underscores the confidence in Ben Sulayem’s ability to lead the FIA into the future.

With the upcoming presidential election looming, the resounding endorsement from these 36 automobile clubs solidifies Ben Sulayem’s position and sets a formidable challenge for any potential contenders vying for the FIA presidency. The automotive world awaits with bated breath to see how this support will shape the upcoming election and the future of the FIA under Ben Sulayem’s continued leadership.
