Janus van Kasteren was the winner of the fourth stage of the Dakar in trucks. After being beaten for the first time since the beginning yesterday, he dominated on the fifth day of the race to return to the lead.
There were some changes at the top of the time table during the 299km timed section, but in the final phase van Kasteren (Boss Machinery Team de Rooy FTP/Iveco) stood out and achieved a 6m04s victory ahead of Mitchel van den Brinke (Eurol Rallysport/Iveco). He received a two-minute penalty. Ales Loprais (Instaforex Loprais Praga) was the fastest at a certain stage of the stage, but ended up in third place, 8m32s behind, and couldn’t continue yesterday’s triumph.
In the overall standings, van Kasteren regained the lead, but everything is still open: he only has a 5m17s advantage over Loprais. Martin Macik MM Technology/Iveco) lost important time in the fourth stage and is already 45m43s behind the top – he also has an additional 32 minutes of penalty.
