Renovado Porsche 911 Carrera traz inédita versão híbrida e 541 cv

Porsche has presented the renewed 911, which comes with a new hybrid variant and features a Carrera GTS version capable of delivering 541 hp of power and a torque of 610 Nm.

Aesthetically, the renewed 911 does not bring major changes, both in terms of the exterior and interior, and most of the changes introduced aim to improve the aerodynamics and performance of the German sports car.

Therefore, the changes include new specific bumpers for each model. In addition, for the first time, the Porsche 911 integrates all lighting functions in LED Matrix headlights, as standard, with the characteristic four-point lighting, which allowed Porsche to create space for larger air intakes in the front section.

In the Carrera GTS variants, the front section has five vertically arranged active cooling flaps visible from the outside, and a hidden flap on each side.

For the first time in the 911, these elements are complemented by adaptive front diffusers in the lower section of the body, which are controlled together with the cooling fins.

All these elements direct the airflow as needed: when power requirements are minimal, the closed fins optimize aerodynamics. When power requirements are high, for example, during more dynamic circuit driving, the flaps direct large amounts of air to the car’s radiators. In addition, the sensors for the assistance systems are now located behind a shiny surface below the license plate.

In the interior, Porsche combines the design DNA of the 911 with modern technology: the Porsche Driver Experience concept focuses on the driver’s axis and intuitive, faster operation. Essential control elements have been placed directly on the steering wheel or around it. These include the standard driving mode selector, revised driving assistant lever, and for the first time in the 911, a start button – to the left of the steering wheel.

In the central console storage space, there is a compartment for smartphones that is cooled and has wireless charging capability.

The Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system continues to be operated through a central high-resolution 10.9’’ screen, with the novelty being the replacement of the analog instrument panel with a fully digital one featuring a 12.6’’ screen.

The biggest news lies in the engine, which features a hybrid system exclusive to the GTS line. “We developed and tested a wide variety of ideas and approaches to come up with the hybrid system that fits perfectly in the 911. The result is a unique system that fits into the overall concept of the 911 and significantly improves performance,” said Frank Moser, vice president of the 911 and 718 ranges.

The heart of the T-Hybrid system is a new 3.6-liter turbo boxer engine, complemented by a permanent magnet synchronous motor integrated into the new and more powerful eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (PDK), which even at idle, supports the boxer engine with an additional torque of up to 150 Nm and provides a power increase of up to 56 hp.

In addition, an integrated 15 hp electric motor installed between the compressor and the turbocharger turbine wheel allows for the immediate generation of the necessary pressure for supercharging.

The two electric motors are powered by a 400V battery with a capacity of 1.9 kWh, installed in the front section of the 911. There is also a 12V lithium-ion battery to power the onboard electrical system.

Thus, Porsche revealed that even without electric assistance, the boxer engine delivers 485 hp and a maximum torque of 570 Nm. In total, the combined power of the T-Hybrid powertrain is 541 hp and 610 Nm, representing an increase of 61 hp compared to its predecessor.

Regarding the renewed 911 Carrera, it continues to be equipped with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo boxer engine, an engine that has been revamped by Porsche, which adopted the intercooler from the Turbo models, now installed under the rear grille, on top of the engine. The turbos of the new 911 Carrera are the same as those reserved for the predecessor GTS models. With these modifications, Porsche achieves a reduction in emissions, but also an increase in power to 394 hp and a maximum torque increase to 450 Nm, allowing the renewed 911 Carrera Coupé to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds (3.9 seconds with the Sport Chrono Package) and reach a top speed of 294 km/h. Compared to its predecessor, these performance values represent an improvement of 0.1 seconds and 1 km/h, respectively. The renewed 911 features a total of seven options for front and rear wheels of 19’’ -20’’ or 20’’ – 21’’. The 911 Carrera GTS models come standard with 21-inch wheels with 315/30 ZR 21 tires on the rear axle. On the front axle, the 20-inch wheels come with 245/35 ZR 20 tires, along with a steering axle that is part of the standard equipment for the first time, allowing for increased stability at high speeds and reducing the turning circle.

Porsche has also revealed that the new 911 Carrera can already be ordered in Coupe and Cabriolet variants with rear-wheel drive, while the 911 Carrera GTS is also available with all-wheel drive and the Targa variant (exclusively with all-wheel drive).

As for prices, Porsche announced that the refreshed 911 Carrera in the coupe variant has a starting price of €160,540, while the 911 Carrera GTS Coupe starts at €213,550 euros.

The German brand also revealed that the first deliveries are expected to begin at the end of the summer for the 911 Carrera and at the end of 2024 for the Carrera GTS.
