Renault mostra o novo motor elétrico E7A 30% mais compacto

The Renault group and Valeo have presented a new next-generation electric motor that promises to be more powerful, efficient, and have a lower environmental impact.

As a result of the partnership between the two companies that began in 2021, the new third-generation motor, named E7A, is in the refinement phase and uses an “all-in-one” architecture, capable of making it 30% more compact for equivalent power compared to the current motors that equip the Megane E-Tech and the new Scenic E-Tech, both 100% electric, as well as the technology of rare-earth-free rotor to reduce its carbon footprint by 30%.

By using a wound rotor instead of permanent magnets, Renault improves the motor’s efficiency, ensures its supply chain, and avoids dependence on countries that produce rare earths and magnets, thus contributing to a lower environmental impact.

This third-generation electric motor will also help reduce battery charging times, as the system will be built for 800 volts instead of the current standard of 400 volts. And Valeo’s stator will increase power and efficiency. The new E7A motor can therefore deliver up to 200 kW. Additionally, it will provide more power without consuming more electricity. The E7A motor uses hairpin technology (hook-shaped instead of wound wires) to assemble the copper wires, a specialty of Valeo since 2010.

While the new motor is still in the development phase, the French brand has announced that its production is scheduled for the end of 2027 at the Renault Group’s Cléon factory.
