Renault seems ready to move forward with the production of the concept presented in 2022, the R5 Turbo 3E E-Tech 100% electric with 380 hp.
The news reported by “AutoExpress” states that Luca de Meo mentioned the French brand is “trying to find a way” to build a fast and worthy Renault.
Internal sources, however, indicated that the model would be named Renault 5 and that it would be built on a customized Spaceframe chassis.
When asked about the matter, Renault’s design director, Laurens van den Acker, did not deny the existence of the project but stated that a unique, low-volume model “was not at the top of the priority list at this moment.”
“Obviously, we fill our drawers with sketches of our dreams, and this would be one of them,” said Laurens van den Acker. “We always have ideas; every designer has their dream cars in their drawers.”
Remember that the R5 Turbo 3E E-Tech concept, presented in 2022, featured a futuristic design with a generously sized rear wing. In addition, like its predecessors, it was equipped with a rear-wheel drive configuration, with two electric motors, one for each rear wheel, allowing for a total power output of 380 hp and a maximum torque of 700 Nm.
The two electric motors are powered by a 42 kWh lithium-ion battery positioned in the middle of the floor of this concept, which allowed for a claimed acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 200 km/h.
We can only wait to see if Renault will indeed proceed with the production of a limited edition of this spectacular R5 Turbo 3E Concept.
