The Renault 5 was very important in the history of Renault: 5.5 million units sold between 1972 and 1996. Two generations were produced, with the first, nicknamed R5, being more commercially successful.
And it is in this that the brand found inspiration for the upcoming R5, with which Renault intends to “democratize the electric car”, promoting it at a price below €25,000.
Always ahead of its time, the Renault 5 was the first car to achieve fuel consumption below the symbolic 5 liters/100 km at 90 km/h… and it was already available in an electric version as early as 1974, with a range of 110 km!
It also marked the beginning of eco-design, with a cover made of wood glued to natural fibers to improve sound insulation, interior space, design, and fuel consumption.
The capacity of a true city car
Although the Renault 5 E-Tech electric is only 3.92 m long, positioned between the Clio II and the Clio III, it rivals the Clio V for interior space, thanks to its AmpR Small platform and a wheelbase of 2.54 m.
