The new Renault 5 and its sibling Alpine A290 have won the Car of The Year 2025 award, succeeding the Scenic E-Tech 100%, the winner of 2024.
The new Renault 5 electric and the Alpine A290 received 353 points from a jury composed of 60 journalists from 23 countries. This result allows Renault to be the first manufacturer to win two titles of the prestigious “Car of The Year” award since Fiat in 1995 and 1996, with the Punto and the Bravo/Brava.
The winners of Car of The Year 2025 were announced this Friday at a ceremony that took place during the opening of the Brussels Motor Show, after the jury revealed in November the list of seven finalists, which included, in addition to the winning duo, the Renault 5 E-Tech electric and the Alpine A290, the Alfa Romeo Junior, Citroën ë-C3/C3, Cupra Terramar, Dacia Duster, Hyundai Inster, and Kia EV3.
“The Alpine team is very proud today to have won the COTY jury’s Car of the Year award with its A290, the brand’s first hot hatch. This award is particularly symbolic as the A290 has opened Alpine’s 100% electric Dream Garage and marks the beginning of a future expanded range. The order book for the A290, which opened in 2024, is already very promising for 2025” said Philippe Krief, CEO of the Alpine brand, in a statement.
