Title: Red Bull’s Struggles: Ex-F1 Driver Exposes Trust Issues and Performance Crisis Over Max Verstappen Factor

In a shocking revelation that has sent ripples through the Formula 1 community, former driver Karun Chandhok has pulled back the curtain on Red Bull Racing’s internal turmoil, highlighting a critical “trust issue” that plagues the team—one that stems from the stark performance gap between their star driver Max Verstappen and his struggling teammate, Yuki Tsunoda. As Verstappen continues to chase his championship dreams, the disparity in results has left the team grappling with a serious identity crisis.

As the 2025 season unfolds, Red Bull finds itself under siege from rivals like McLaren, with Verstappen trailing the championship lead by a daunting 49 points after a stunning victory by Lando Norris at the Brazil Grand Prix. Despite Verstappen’s remarkable achievements—amassing over 341 points out of the team’s total of 366—the team’s second driver problem remains a festering wound that refuses to heal. Tsunoda’s inability to keep pace with Verstappen has raised alarm bells within the organization, with Chandhok asserting that this imbalance is one of the key reasons behind Red Bull’s recent struggles.

“I get the sense this is where they’re hamstrung by the fact they’re a one-car team,” Chandhok stated, emphasizing the critical need for both drivers to maximize performance during a single practice session. The Brazilian weekend underscored this issue—while McLaren’s dynamic duo of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri effectively gathered crucial data to exploit their competitors’ weaknesses, Red Bull was left floundering. The lack of comparable performance data between Verstappen and Tsunoda has exacerbated the team’s predicament, forcing them into a precarious position of uncertainty.

Chandhok elaborated, explaining, “When there’s such a gulf between the two drivers, they can’t really trust whether the information is the driver or the car that’s creating this gap.” This lack of clarity has led to a paralyzing fear within the team, as they scramble to discern whether Tsunoda’s struggles stem from personal errors or flaws within the car itself.

Looking ahead to the 2026 season, a complete overhaul of regulations looms on the horizon, and it appears that Tsunoda may be on the chopping block. Red Bull’s new team principal, Laurent Mekies, aims to breathe fresh life into the organization, and his expertise could prove pivotal in navigating the challenges ahead. However, Chandhok warns that unless Red Bull can foster a competitive environment where both drivers contribute valuable data, they may once again find themselves outpaced by their rivals.

“The second driver problem and the lack of data on their current challenger are indeed the issues currently,” Chandhok reiterated, stressing that Red Bull must prioritize establishing a strong second driver to avoid falling behind in the development race. As the 2025 season marches on with three races remaining, the pressure mounts for Verstappen and his team to leave this turbulent chapter behind and start anew.

With the stakes higher than ever, Red Bull Racing must confront its internal strife head-on or risk watching their championship ambitions slip away into the abyss. The question looms large: Can they overcome their trust issues and reshape their future, or will they succumb to the weight of their own uncertainties? The clock is ticking, and the world of Formula 1 is watching closely.
