Christian Horner, the Team Principal of Red Bull Racing, has hailed the team’s performance at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix as their most competitive race of the year so far. Despite Max Verstappen starting from pole position, he finished in second place, just 2.8 seconds behind Oscar Piastri after serving a five-second penalty for a first-turn incident.

Horner commended the evolution of the car over the weekend, emphasizing the team’s positive aspects. He pointed out, “We finished second, we had the pace – on Friday it looked like McLaren was 1.2s ahead of everyone.” Horner expressed confidence that the team was faster than McLaren on both medium and hard tires, attributing this to the team’s engineering efforts.

Acknowledging areas for improvement, Horner admitted that there are still aspects of the Red Bull car that need enhancing, and the team is diligently working on them. Looking ahead to the next challenge in Miami, where the heat may favor McLaren, Horner remains optimistic about the team’s progress and their ability to compete on equal terms.

Horner’s disappointment at not clinching the victory was overshadowed by encouraging signs of the team’s competitiveness. He stated, “We felt we had McLaren beaten, but it is what it is.” Congratulations were extended to Oscar Piastri for his victory, with the focus now shifting to the upcoming race in Miami.

With the team steadily making improvements, Horner believes they are closing the gap and gearing up to challenge McLaren head-on. As the Red Bull Racing team continues to fine-tune their performance, all eyes are now on the Miami Grand Prix, where the battle for supremacy is set to intensify.
