Former F1 team boss exposes Red Bull’s catastrophic decision, leading to major driver error

Red Bull Racing has found itself in hot water after a former Formula 1 team boss revealed that the team ignored crucial advice regarding a major driver decision. The repercussions of this decision have left the prestigious outfit, led by Christian Horner, struggling in third place in the team standings after the first five rounds of the 2025 campaign.

The reigning drivers’ title holder, Max Verstappen, is facing challenges extracting performance from the RB21, compounded by the difficulties faced by the team’s newest number two driver, Yuki Tsunoda. Tsunoda, who was unexpectedly promoted to the main team this season, has been grappling with the notoriously tricky F1 machinery, a transition that has not been easy for the young driver.

The decision to promote Tsunoda over other candidates like Liam Lawson has sparked controversy, with many, including former Racing Bulls principal Franz Tost, expressing their disappointment and disbelief. Tost, who led the junior team for almost two decades, had advocated for Tsunoda to replace Sergio Perez, citing the Japanese racer’s experience and speed as valuable assets for the team.

In an interview with Sport1, Tost expressed his dismay at Red Bull’s decision to overlook Tsunoda, stating, “I said take Yuki Tsunoda. He has the experience, he’s fast, he can do it. How the decision turned out is well known.” Tost further criticized the choice to promote Lawson instead of Tsunoda, emphasizing the latter’s superior speed and experience on the track.

The fallout from this controversial decision has raised questions about Red Bull’s judgment and decision-making processes, with Tost’s revelations shedding light on an internal rift that may be impacting the team’s performance on the track. As the 2025 F1 season progresses, all eyes will be on Red Bull as they navigate the consequences of this major driver error.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as Red Bull Racing grapples with the fallout from their decision to ignore crucial advice and the implications it holds for their future in the world of Formula 1.
