Red Bull’s Shocking Decision: Why Franco Colapinto Was Overlooked in Driver Selection Crisis

In a surprising turn of events, Red Bull has left fans and experts baffled by not considering Franco Colapinto as a solution to their recent Formula 1 driver dilemma. Despite his impressive performance during a nine-race stint at Williams in 2024, Colapinto was not even on the radar for a seat at Racing Bulls for the 2025 season.

After a lackluster start to the 2025 F1 campaign with two scoreless rounds, Red Bull made a bold move by swapping Liam Lawson with Yuki Tsunoda, sending Lawson back to Racing Bulls. Speculations were rife that Red Bull might turn to Alpine’s pool of talented reserve drivers, including the likes of Paul Aron and the standout Colapinto, to fill the void left by Lawson.

However, in a shocking revelation, Helmut Marko, a senior advisor at Red Bull, clarified that Colapinto was never in serious consideration for a seat at Racing Bulls. Despite Colapinto’s stellar performance at Williams, where he scored crucial points for the team, Red Bull opted for their in-house talent, Isack Hadjar, who had a strong F2 campaign and proved to be the right choice according to Marko.

Marko stated, “Colapinto had a very strong debut in Formula 1, but he wasn’t a serious consideration for us. We had Hadjar, who was consistently faster in Formula 2 than Colapinto, and the results have validated our decision.”

Although Colapinto has now moved to Alpine’s reserve roster and is eyeing a race seat opportunity, Red Bull seems confident in their choice of Hadjar. The young driver showed promise by making it to Q3 during qualifying for the Chinese GP, despite a disappointing start in Australia.

While fans and experts may question Red Bull’s decision to overlook Colapinto, the team stands by their choice and remains focused on the upcoming challenges in the F1 season. Only time will tell if this decision will pay off for Red Bull in their quest for success on the track.
