Red Bull’s Shocking Decision Sparks F1 Controversy: Ex-Star Slams ‘Scandalous’ Move

Former F1 Star Slams Red Bull for Shocking Decision to Drop Lawson After Just Two Races

Red Bull has stirred up controversy in the F1 world with their abrupt decision to part ways with Liam Lawson after only two races. The young driver was brought in to replace Sergio Perez for the 2025 season but struggled to deliver results early on, failing to score any points in both the Australian and Chinese Grand Prix. Despite the brief opportunity, Red Bull management made the ruthless call to switch Lawson back to Racing Bulls before the Japanese Grand Prix, replacing him with Yuki Tsunoda.

Criticism of Red Bull’s move has poured in from all corners, with ex-F1 icon Jean Alesi joining the chorus of disapproval. Alesi, with over 200 F1 appearances under his belt, condemned the team’s actions, labeling them as “scandalous.” He questioned the timing of the decision, stating that such choices should have been made during the offseason rather than at the start of the season. Alesi expressed his disbelief at the situation, emphasizing that Red Bull’s actions were far from commendable.

Max Verstappen, Red Bull’s lead driver, also hinted at his discontent with the treatment of Lawson by liking a social media post that accused the team of ‘bullying’ the young driver. The Dutch driver, alongside Tsunoda in Japan, had a starkly different race experience. Verstappen clinched victory at Suzuka, while Tsunoda failed to secure any points on his Red Bull debut.

With Red Bull already trailing McLaren by 50 points in the constructors’ championship, the pressure is mounting on the team to deliver strong performances in the upcoming races. The focus is now on 24-year-old Tsunoda to step up and make an impact as Red Bull aims to close the gap in the standings. The racing world is eagerly watching to see if Tsunoda can rise to the challenge and propel Red Bull back to the top of the F1 grid.
