Red Bull F1 Sensation: Liam Lawson’s Demise Blamed on ‘Bad Luck’

In a shocking turn of events, Red Bull’s decision to part ways with promising young driver Liam Lawson has been attributed to a string of misfortunes. Helmut Marko, the Red Bull chief, disclosed the unfortunate series of events that led to Lawson’s departure from the Formula 1 team. Yuki Tsunoda will step in to replace Lawson starting from the Japanese Grand Prix, as Lawson failed to secure points or a Q3 appearance in his first two races with the team. The 23-year-old will now join the junior team Racing Bulls.

Marko pointed out a crucial moment where Lawson’s luck took a nosedive, citing the Bahrain testing session as the origin of his troubles. Mechanical issues during testing in Bahrain and a setback during the free practice in Australia set off a chain of problems for Lawson. The mounting pressure, coupled with the challenging nature of Red Bull’s car, resulted in a downward spiral for the young driver.

While some may question Red Bull’s decision to part ways with Lawson, Max Verstappen hinted that the car itself might have been a significant factor in Lawson’s struggles. Verstappen suggested that Lawson could potentially excel in the Racing Bulls car, hinting at a mismatch between Lawson and the RB21.

Lawson’s return to the Racing Bulls team in Suzuka is seen as a chance for him to reignite his career under a less stressful environment. Meanwhile, Tsunoda will take the reins as Red Bull’s main hope for climbing up the constructors’ championship standings, with the team heavily relying on Verstappen’s 36 points so far this season.

Despite the challenges posed by Red Bull’s current car, Tsunoda has shown promise with two Q3 appearances in 2025 and a standout 2024 season where he outperformed Lawson and Daniel Ricciardo at Racing Bulls. The upcoming races will reveal whether Red Bull’s decision to switch drivers will pay off in their quest for glory in the Formula 1 circuit.
