Red Bull’s Next Superstar? Arvid Lindblad Moves One Step Closer to F1 With Dominant Title Win

Formula 1’s next rising star may have just taken his most crucial step yet toward the big leagues.

Red Bull’s 17-year-old British prodigy, Arvid Lindblad, is now one step away from making his Formula 1 debut, after clinching the Formula Regional Oceania Championship—a title that brings him across the 40-point superlicence threshold required for F1 eligibility.

With his meteoric rise, whispers around the paddock suggest Lindblad could be in an F1 seat as early as 2026—or sooner if Red Bull pulls the trigger on an early promotion.

Lindblad’s Breakthrough Moment – Why His Title Win Is So Important

Dominating the New Zealand-based series, Lindblad maintained a commanding lead throughout the five-round championship, securing podium finishes in 12 of the 15 races.

His title win is less about proving his talent—Red Bull is already sold on that—and more about strategically securing the necessary superlicence points to ensure he’s F1-ready when Red Bull needs him.

And now, he’s cleared that hurdle.

“This title won’t convince Red Bull that Lindblad is F1-worthy—they’re already convinced of that,” notes an insider.

While past champions of this series include current F1 drivers like Lando Norris, Lance Stroll, and Liam Lawson, Lindblad’s trajectory feels different.

Red Bull hasn’t hyped up a young driver this much since it fought to sign Max Verstappen in 2014.

That’s a massive endorsement—and one that puts the rest of Red Bull’s junior talent pool on notice.

How Lindblad’s Title Puts Him on the Fast Track to F1

Winning Formula Regional Oceania granted Lindblad 18 superlicence points, adding to his:

🏆 15 points from finishing fourth in Formula 3 last season
🏆 12 points from his Formula 4 campaigns in 2022

With his total now surpassing 40, Lindblad can now officially apply for an F1 superlicence.

This also eliminates any pressure to rack up additional points during his rookie Formula 2 season with Campos Racing.

That means Red Bull is free to slot him into an F1 seat whenever it deems him ready.

Why Red Bull Is So High on Lindblad

Red Bull’s F1 leadership, including Christian Horner and Helmut Marko, haven’t been this excited about a young driver in years.

For a team that has experimented with bringing back experienced drivers—like Sergio Pérez and Daniel Ricciardo—Lindblad represents a return to Red Bull’s original strategy: betting on youth and raw talent.

Much like Sebastian Vettel and Verstappen, Lindblad fits the mold of an aggressive, naturally gifted racer with a fearless approach.

And Red Bull is already preparing him for the big stage.

Lindblad’s F1 Testing & Practice Sessions Are Coming

🚨 F1 Showrun in 2024 – Lindblad got his first taste of F1 machinery last year, driving Sebastian Vettel’s 2012 RB8 championship car in a Red Bull demo run in Houston.

🚀 Private F1 Testing in 2025 – Red Bull is planning to put him in a more recent F1 car this season under F1’s Testing of Previous Cars (TPC) regulations. Once he logs 300km of testing, he checks off another superlicence requirement.

📅 F1 Free Practice Appearances Possible in 2025 – Teams are now required to run a rookie driver in two FP1 sessions per car, meaning:

🔹 Racing Bulls (formerly AlphaTauri) needs a rookie to drive Yuki Tsunoda’s car twice.
🔹 Red Bull Racing has four FP1 slots available between Max Verstappen and Liam Lawson’s cars.

Last year, Red Bull pushed for a rule change allowing 17-year-olds to get F1 practice superlicences—a move many thought was for Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli, but was actually driven by Red Bull with Lindblad in mind.

All signs point to Lindblad getting his first taste of an F1 race weekend this season.

The 2026 F1 Seat – Is Lindblad the Future of Racing Bulls?

With Red Bull’s driver lineup constantly in flux, a 2026 Racing Bulls (formerly AlphaTauri) seat could be waiting for Lindblad.

Here’s how it could shake out:

🚨 Yuki Tsunoda’s Future Is Uncertain – The Honda-backed driver enters an unprecedented fifth season with Red Bull’s junior team, but with Honda leaving for Aston Martin in 2026, Tsunoda’s Red Bull ties could weaken significantly.

⏳ Hadjar Has One Shot – Racing Bulls rookie Isack Hadjar will be given time to prove himself, but Red Bull has never hesitated to make ruthless mid-season changes if a driver doesn’t deliver.

👀 Lindblad Is the Next in Line – If Tsunoda underwhelms or Hadjar struggles, Lindblad is waiting in the wings to seize a 2026 F1 seat.

With Red Bull focusing more on its youth pipeline, Lindblad is perfectly positioned to be the next major talent to join its F1 roster.

Final Thoughts – Is Lindblad Red Bull’s Next Superstar?

All the signs are there—Lindblad isn’t just another Red Bull junior; he’s the one they’re building their future around.

✔ Superlicence secured – He can enter F1 whenever Red Bull is ready.
✔ Private F1 testing incoming – He’ll get hands-on experience in modern F1 machinery.
✔ Free practice runs likely in 2025 – He’ll get his first taste of an F1 race weekend.
✔ 2026 Racing Bulls seat in play – The path is clear if he impresses this season.

🚨 Red Bull is all-in on Arvid Lindblad. The only question left—how soon will they pull the trigger?
