Former Red Bull driver Jaime Alguersuari has sparked controversy by debunking the theory that the Red Bull car is tailored specifically to suit Max Verstappen. Alguersuari emphasized that it is Verstappen’s exceptional driving skills and understanding of the car that set him apart from his teammates.

Verstappen will be joined by a new teammate, Yuki Tsunoda, at the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix after Liam Lawson was replaced by Red Bull. This decision was made to safeguard Lawson and provide insight into whether his struggles were driver-related or car-related. There has been ongoing speculation that Red Bull designs their cars with a focus on Verstappen, a claim initially raised by Sergio Perez in 2023 during a qualifying slump.

Alguersuari firmly stated that no team in Formula 1 would construct a car solely around one driver’s style. He highlighted Verstappen’s ability to adapt his driving style to different situations and make the most out of the car’s capabilities. Alguersuari praised Verstappen as the “best driver ever” in Formula 1, attributing his success to his experience, mindset, and unparalleled talent in reading and feeling the car.

The former Red Bull junior emphasized Verstappen’s intelligence in managing various aspects of racing, including tire wear, race dynamics, and car setup. According to Alguersuari, Verstappen’s ability to handle any situation on and off the track sets him apart from his competitors. Verstappen’s comprehensive understanding of the car and his continuous efforts behind the scenes contribute significantly to his outstanding performance in Formula 1.
