Red Bull Teases Bold Livery Change for 2025—And It’s All Because of Max Verstappen

Red Bull is shaking things up for the 2025 Formula 1 season, and for the first time in nearly a decade, its iconic livery is set to change. The team took to Instagram with a cryptic post, hinting at a redesigned RB21, and according to reports, Max Verstappen himself is behind the bold decision.

“One week until that new car smell,” Red Bull teased on Instagram, revealing that the new look will be unveiled at the F1 75 event in London’s O2 on February 18.

This marks a major departure from Red Bull’s signature matte-blue look, which has remained largely unchanged since 2016. But why the sudden shift? Verstappen wanted something different.

Verstappen Pushes for a New Look: “It’s Time to Spice It Up”

Despite dominating the grid, Red Bull has remained visually static for years, and Verstappen—who is never one to hold back—made it clear that it was time for a fresh aesthetic.

“The livery, I hope it’s a bit different. We’ve had so many matte-blue cars, but I think sometimes it’s just nice to spice it up a little bit,” Verstappen said earlier this year.

While the Instagram teaser still hints at Red Bull’s signature colors, early speculation suggests a new design philosophy—possibly incorporating a glossier finish, new sponsor placements, or a radical twist on the classic blue, red, and yellow scheme.

New Era, New Livery: Verstappen Prepares for a Challenging 2025

Red Bull’s 2025 season is already shaping up to be a major test, not just in performance, but also in team dynamics.

The team has undergone massive personnel changes, including a shakeup in engineering and management, and now they’re introducing a new full-time teammate for Verstappen—Liam Lawson, who replaces Sergio Perez.

“I’m excited to be working with a new teammate, Liam,” Verstappen stated. “I think the whole team is excited and looking ahead to this season.”

While Verstappen remains the clear No. 1 driver, Lawson has already been warned about the challenges of competing alongside the reigning champion. The 23-year-old Kiwi will have to prove himself quickly, as Red Bull cannot afford internal instability while trying to fend off a resurging Ferrari, McLaren, and Mercedes.

Can Red Bull Maintain Its Edge?

Although Red Bull dominated early in 2024, their grip on the top spot weakened toward the end of the season, with Ferrari, McLaren, and Mercedes all catching up. Heading into 2025, Verstappen remains the favorite, but Red Bull must fine-tune their development to keep ahead of the competition.

“I’m relaxed, I’m just looking forward to seeing how competitive we can be this year,” Verstappen admitted.
“Once you realize how competitive you are, you set a bit of a target, but that’s too early to say.”

Final Verdict: A New Look, But Will Red Bull Still Be the Team to Beat?

While a livery change is exciting, Red Bull’s biggest challenge isn’t just aesthetic—it’s keeping their competitive edge.

With Ferrari closing in, McLaren rising, and a new teammate dynamic, Verstappen’s title defense in 2025 won’t be easy. But if Red Bull gets their RB21 right, expect Verstappen to remain the man to beat.

Will Red Bull’s new look signal a new era of dominance? Or will this be the season where cracks finally appear in their reign?

The F1 world will find out soon.
