In a shocking turn of events, rumors swirl around Christian Horner’s potential departure from Red Bull, with Franz Tost being touted as his successor. Despite initial denials, speculation about Horner’s imminent exit resurfaces, causing a stir in the Formula 1 world.

The speculation first arose when Autosprint reported on Horner’s uncertain future at the helm of the Red Bull team, hinting that the upcoming updates from Imola could be pivotal in determining his fate. The Italian magazine suggested that Oliver Oakes, the 37-year-old team principal of Alpine, was the frontrunner to replace him in the event of his departure.

Unexpectedly, Oakes resigned from his role at the French team, fueling speculations of a potential move to Red Bull alongside Horner, who would supposedly be promoted in this scenario. However, news broke that Oakes’ decision was influenced by personal reasons related to his brother William’s arrest, casting doubt on the entire situation.

Despite Red Bull’s denial of the rumors, citing Horner’s contractual commitment until 2030 and downplaying concerns about the team’s performance, Austrian newspaper Österreich reignited the conversation about Horner’s departure. They went as far as to suggest that a “Red Bull earthquake” was imminent, with Horner facing the brink of termination post-Imola.

Moreover, Österreich supported Oakes as a candidate for Horner’s replacement, alongside another name, Franz Tost. The 69-year-old Austrian, who previously clashed with Horner during his time at Red Bull’s junior team, is now being considered for the role. Tost, having left Formula 1 citing personal reasons after 18 years with Toro Rosso and Alpha Tauri, emerges as a surprising contender for the position.

The potential appointment of Tost adds a new layer of intrigue to the unfolding saga, originating from Austria, the home country of both the former team principal and the Red Bull company. The Formula 1 community eagerly awaits further developments in this gripping narrative of power dynamics and succession in one of the sport’s leading teams.
