The BBC and the German magazine Auto Motor und Sport recently reported that the British individual informed Red Bull of his desire to move on after accusations against team principal Christian Horner. Horner was cleared in February of alleged misconduct against a staff member, who has since appealed the decision. In a statement, the individual, who played a significant role in the growth and success of Red Bull Racing over the past two decades, expressed his gratitude and stated that now is the right time to pass the baton to others and seek new challenges. Throughout his career, this individual’s cars secured 25 drivers’ and constructors’ championships for Williams, McLaren, and Red Bull. His 2023 car holds the record for being the most dominant in the sport’s history, winning 21 out of 22 races. Red Bull announced that the 65-year-old individual will step back from Formula 1 design responsibilities but will continue to participate in specific races until the end of the current season. Horner, acknowledging the significant impact of the individual’s contributions, praised his vision and genius, which led to 13 titles in 20 seasons. Despite Red Bull’s current dominance with three-time world champion Max Verstappen, other top teams have shown interest in acquiring the services of this highly esteemed designer. However, the individual has been hesitant to leave England, where most Formula 1 teams are based. Potential future employers, such as Ferrari and Aston Martin, have made approaches, especially with the imminent arrival of seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari next season. Red Bull’s partnership with Honda is set to end at the end of next season, and they plan to develop their own engine with support from Ford when the sport enters a new era of power units in 2026. Red Bull has faced internal challenges, with Horner, Verstappen’s father Jos, and Red Bull’s motorsport advisor Helmut Marko at odds with each other before the start of the current season. The Verstappens have a close relationship with Formula 1 veteran Marko, and Max’s commitment to the team is linked to Marko’s continued involvement. While this individual is not solely responsible and has a team of highly skilled designers and aerodynamicists working alongside him, he is considered essential to Red Bull’s success, much like Verstappen.
