Red Bull Racing’s shocking 2026 driver line-up revealed: who will replace Tsunoda?

Red Bull Racing Shakes Up 2026 Driver Line-Up: Tsunoda Out, Hadjar In!

In a dramatic turn of events, Red Bull Racing is set to unveil its much-anticipated 2026 Formula 1 driver line-up this Tuesday, sending ripples of excitement and speculation through the motorsport community. Team principal Laurent Mekies has remained tight-lipped about the imminent announcement, but insiders are buzzing with news that Yuki Tsunoda will be ousted in favor of Isack Hadjar, a move that has been brewing for several races.

“We will stick to our plan, and we will announce on Tuesday what’s the driver line-up,” Mekies stated, dodging questions about the specifics but expressing confidence that the announcement will not distract the team from their focus in the final race in Abu Dhabi. This cryptic hint has only fueled speculation surrounding Tsunoda’s fate as he struggles to make a significant impact in the second Red Bull seat.

Currently, Max Verstappen sits just 12 points shy of the championship lead as he gears up for the Abu Dhabi finale, while Tsunoda languishes in 15th place in the standings with a mere 33 points—an astonishing 366 points behind his teammate. Despite showing glimpses of speed, Tsunoda has consistently failed to deliver competitive performances, raising questions about his future in the sport.

After a recent race in Qatar, Tsunoda asserted that he has “proved a lot of things,” particularly after being given a car identical in specification to Verstappen’s for the last few events. His best performances have seen him lap just two to three tenths behind the reigning champion, even managing to outqualify Verstappen in a sprint session for the first time. However, his hopes were dashed when he was eliminated in Q1 during the main qualifying round, despite again being close to Verstappen’s times.

“I think I’m showing what I can do,” Tsunoda declared, highlighting his belief in his capabilities. Yet, with the looming announcement, the question remains: will he retain his seat at Red Bull or find himself relegated to the sister team, Racing Bulls?

Red Bull faces a tough decision as they weigh their options among Tsunoda, Liam Lawson, and Formula 2 race winner Arvid Lindblad. Lawson, who was dropped after just two races alongside Verstappen in 2025, has made a remarkable comeback, revitalizing his standing within the team. Post-Qatar Grand Prix, Lawson lamented the absence of news regarding his future but has seemingly made a compelling case for retention.

The uncertainty surrounding Tsunoda’s future is palpable. He could end up as a driver for Racing Bulls in 2026, serve as a reserve for both teams, or potentially be released altogether. Mekies emphasized the necessity for Tsunoda to perform at his best during the Abu Dhabi race, stating, “It could be down to the last point, so it could be mega important… We need Yuki at 100%.”

With Tsunoda achieving his best result of the season—a fifth place in the sprint race—and narrowly missing out on Q1, the stakes are higher than ever. “A lot of guys would be happy to be three tenths off Max in qualifying,” Mekies added, underscoring the pressure on Tsunoda to deliver a stellar performance in the final race of the season.

As the motorsport world holds its breath for Tuesday’s announcement, one thing is clear: Red Bull Racing is poised for a seismic shift in 2026, and the outcome could send shockwaves through the entire F1 grid. Will Tsunoda rise to the occasion, or will he become a casualty in Red Bull’s relentless pursuit of excellence? Only time will tell.
