Red Bull is aiming to secure their third consecutive constructors’ championship, while Max Verstappen has his sights set on winning his fourth straight drivers’ championship in 2024.
Christian Horner, the boss of Red Bull, has downplayed the team’s chances of achieving a perfect Formula 1 season in 2024 during pre-season testing. Despite winning both the drivers’ and constructors’ championships in 2022 and easily retaining their titles in 2023 with 21 out of 22 Grand Prix victories, Red Bull fell short of a perfect season when they finished fifth and eighth in the Singapore Grand Prix.
Horner stated that setting a target of winning every race would be extremely challenging, acknowledging that they can improve from their performance in 2023 but expecting other teams to catch up due to stable regulations and the influence of Red Bull’s RB19 car on other teams’ designs. He praised the team’s work on the RB20 car and expressed curiosity about the competitive order at the start of the season in Bahrain.
Out of Red Bull’s 21 wins in 2023, 19 were achieved by Max Verstappen, who secured his third consecutive world championship and set a record by winning 86 percent of the races, surpassing Alberto Ascari’s record from 1952. Verstappen also had a streak of ten consecutive victories, which began in May’s Miami GP and ended in the Singapore GP in September.
However, Red Bull’s rivals are expected to close the gap in 2024, as they likely drew inspiration from Red Bull’s dominant RB19 car in the previous season. Verstappen emphasized that a perfect season is not their goal and that their focus is on delivering a competitive car. He acknowledged the challenges of winning races in a more competitive field and acknowledged that the season’s outcome will depend on various factors.
Ultimately, only time will reveal Red Bull’s speed and the level of competition they face in the upcoming season.
