Red Bull pode ter renovado o contrato de Sergio Perez para apaziguar Max Verstappen.

Sergio Perez was, without a doubt, the most reliable choice for Red Bull to avoid upsetting Max Verstappen. The future of Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen at Red Bull was a major topic of discussion in the F1 community. The team in Milton Keynes ultimately decided to extend the Mexican driver’s contract for two years. This comes after rumors circulated about various options the Austrian team was considering. However, Perez may have been the safest choice for Red Bull. He has been racing for the team since 2021 and consistently played the role of a second supporting driver to Verstappen. Despite Perez’s inconsistent performance, Verstappen seems to be satisfied with their partnership over the years. It was mentioned that Red Bull wanted to maintain stability by keeping Perez for the next two seasons, possibly due to the departure of Adrian Newey. However, it is speculated that Perez’s contract extension was mainly to keep Verstappen happy.

Since Sergio Perez joined Red Bull, Max Verstappen has won three consecutive world titles. The 34-year-old driver has never posed a real threat to Verstappen’s championship ambitions. It seems that Perez has finally come to terms with the fact that realistically he cannot challenge Verstappen. On the other hand, the three-time world champion is comfortable having a teammate like that.

If Red Bull had chosen someone like [insert name], Max Verstappen would have faced competition within the team. [Insert name] is a determined driver with a strong desire to win in F1. Furthermore, their history together at Toro Rosso suggests that tensions would inevitably rise if they were on the same team.

Since [insert name] left the team in 2018, Milton Keynes has revolved around Verstappen. Therefore, Christian Horner and his team could not afford to have a driver who could challenge Verstappen for race wins. However, this decision may prove costly for Red Bull if Perez is unable to match the performance of Ferrari and McLaren as on-track competition intensifies.

Arguably, offering Sergio Perez a two-year contract could be seen as a risk for Red Bull. This decision may keep Max Verstappen satisfied, but if Perez fails to deliver consistent results, Milton Keynes may struggle to maintain its position against the increasingly competitive field.
