Red Bull’s Game-Changer: Gianpiero Lambiase Stays on as Max Verstappen’s Race Engineer for 2026

In a dramatic twist following the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Red Bull Racing has put to rest swirling rumors about Gianpiero Lambiase’s future with the team. The highly regarded race engineer, known affectionately as GP, will not only continue his crucial role as Max Verstappen’s race engineer but will also step up as the Head of Racing in 2026.

Reports flooded in after the race that the 45-year-old Lambiase would be stepping down due to personal reasons, with sources suggesting he might prefer a less demanding schedule from Red Bull’s headquarters in Milton Keynes. However, a Red Bull spokesperson has emphatically debunked these claims, stating, “GP will continue in his role for 2026 as Max’s race engineer, alongside his role as Head of Racing.” This confirmation comes as a relief to fans and the team alike, as Lambiase has been instrumental in Verstappen’s meteoric rise, guiding him from the pit wall since he joined Red Bull. Together, they have clinched an impressive four world drivers’ titles.

The Abu Dhabi GP showcased the tenacity of both Verstappen and Lambiase, as they fought valiantly for a fifth consecutive championship. Verstappen claimed victory in the race but fell just short of Lando Norris in the overall standings, finishing a mere two points behind. The emotional weight of the moment was palpable, with Lambiase visibly affected on the pit wall. Yet, displaying his leadership, he rallied his champion driver with heartfelt words over the team radio: “Max, you have given everything, you can be proud of that. Hold your head up high.”

While Red Bull celebrates Lambiase’s continued presence, the team is grappling with the departure of another key figure, advisor Helmut Marko, who has exited after over two decades of dedicated service. This shake-up within the team signifies a pivotal moment as they prepare for the challenges ahead in the 2026 season.

As the dust settles, one thing is clear: Red Bull is committed to maintaining its championship-winning momentum, with Gianpiero Lambiase at the helm of Verstappen’s racing strategy. The road to the next season is fraught with uncertainty, but with Lambiase’s experience and Verstappen’s unparalleled talent, fans can expect a thrilling battle as they aim for glory once again.
