Red Bull Team Principal Horner’s Future in Jeopardy as Pressure Mounts at Imola

The Formula 1 season is heating up, and the pressure is on for Red Bull Racing as they face challenges both on and off the track. Speculations are swirling around the team principal, Christian Horner, as the Italian magazine Autosprint suggests that his position within the team might be in jeopardy.

With McLaren dominating the early races of the season and Mercedes showing signs of improvement, Red Bull is struggling to keep up, relying heavily on the outstanding performances of their driver Max Verstappen. The team from Milton Keynes is facing a period of deep reflection about their future in the sport, with concerns extending beyond just their on-track performance.

As Red Bull gears up for the first European Grand Prix at Imola on May 18th, they are planning updates to their car in a bid to enhance competitiveness. However, if the season takes a turn for the worse, it could be Horner who pays the price. Reports suggest that Horner, who has been at the helm of Red Bull Racing since its inception in 2005, may be losing support from key stakeholders within the organization.

The Thai faction of Red Bull’s ownership, led by Chaleo Yoovidhya, holds a 51% stake in the team and had previously supported Horner during a challenging period in 2024. Now, amid cost-cutting measures within the organization, this support may be waning. In a twist of fate, Helmut Marko, closely tied to the Austrian side of the company, could potentially step in if Horner falters.

While much of Horner’s future hinges on the team’s performance on the track, the introduction of new power units in 2026 developed entirely by Red Bull could also play a significant role in shaping the team’s direction moving forward. The upcoming races will be crucial not only for Red Bull’s championship aspirations but also for the future leadership of the team.
