The Baltimore Ravens are facing challenges in keeping their No. 1 defense intact for the upcoming 2024 season. Not only did they lose defense coordinator Mike Macdonald and some assistant coaches to the Seattle Seahawks, but they also have key players who are up for new contracts. One of those players is defensive end Justin Madubuike, who expressed his love for Baltimore but also acknowledged that the NFL is a business. He hinted that he may consider the most lucrative contract offer available.
Madubuike had an impressive season, leading the team and all defensive tackles with 13 sacks. He also tied an NFL record for recording at least half a sack in 11 consecutive games as a defensive tackle. His performance has put him in a position to command a significant salary in 2024, especially after seeing Javon Hargrave sign a massive deal with the San Francisco 49ers.
While the Ravens excelled on defense, they have concerns on both sides of the ball. The Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns are expected to be stronger and healthier in the upcoming season, posing a challenge to the Ravens’ quest to repeat as AFC North champions. Even the Pittsburgh Steelers could bounce back offensively with the addition of Arthur Smith as their new offensive coordinator and another season for Kenny Pickett. The Ravens will need to carefully prioritize their best interior defensive lineman while addressing other areas of concern to maintain their competitiveness in the division.
