Ralf Schumacher expressed his opinion that Ferrari’s decision to hire Lewis Hamilton for the next season may not have been the best move, suggesting that it would have been more beneficial for the team to keep Carlos Sainz. Schumacher, former Formula 1 driver, believes that Sainz has performed well since joining Ferrari in 2021 and questioned the reason behind Hamilton’s arrival. In his view, Ferrari should have kept the Spanish driver for the next season.
Schumacher also mentioned that it would be ideal for Hamilton to continue racing for Mercedes for another one or two seasons before retiring from Formula 1. However, he acknowledged that Hamilton himself was eager to leave the team. Despite his struggles in the 2024 season, Hamilton’s desire to win another world championship remains strong.
There are rumors that Hamilton may reconsider his agreement with Ferrari and retire from the sport at the end of this season. Schumacher dismissed these speculations as “completely absurd,” pointing out that Hamilton’s contract with Ferrari is too lucrative for such a possibility. It is estimated that Hamilton will earn over $430 million in his multi-year contract with the team.
Given these circumstances, it is highly unlikely that Hamilton will announce his retirement in the near future. The 39-year-old driver is excited to start a new chapter in his career with Ferrari and fans are eager to see him race alongside Charles Leclerc next season.
