After giving up the cockpit to rookie Frederik Vesti in the first free practice, George Russell only ran in the FP2 of the Mexican Grand Prix of Formula 1. He was tenth in the session, just over half a second behind leader Max Verstappen (Red Bull).

For the British driver, it was a Friday with some complexities, particularly due to traffic: ‘It was a good feeling to get back in the car, but I had a challenging session with mixed weather conditions and some rain towards the end of FP2, which compromised consecutive laps for everyone. It’s a tight field and there was a lot of traffic during the sessions, so it’s one of the challenges we’ll need to face this weekend’.

Aware that improvements are needed with the Mercedes W14, Russell showed full confidence in the team to make it possible: ‘We also need to make some improvements with the pace of our car if we want to be in front of Q3, but I know we’ll work hard to achieve it’.
