Raffaele Marciello Seizes Victory at Nurburgring 24 Hours After Intense Battle

In a stunning turn of events at the Nurburgring 24 Hours race, BMW emerged victorious after a penalty was imposed on the leading Porsche team. The Rowe BMW clinched the coveted victory after the Manthey EMA Porsche, driven by Kevin Estre, Ayhancan Guven, and Thomas Preining, received a post-race penalty for causing a collision. This penalty reshaped the outcome of the race, propelling Raffaele Marciello, Kelvin van der Linde, Jesse Krohn, and Augusto Farfus to the top of the podium.

The race was a nail-biting affair, with the #911 Porsche and the Rowe BMW engaging in a tense battle throughout. However, a 100-second penalty for Estre, stemming from a collision with the #179 Dorr Aston Martin, shifted the tide in favor of the #98 BMW. Despite protests from the Manthey EMA Porsche team, the penalty stood, leading to a dramatic last lap that solidified BMW’s triumph.

The victory marked the second Nurburgring win for the Rowe team, while for Marciello and Krohn, it was a maiden victory at the prestigious event. Farfus secured his second triumph, having previously won in 2010, while van der Linde celebrated his third victory after earlier successes with Audi in 2017 and 2022.

The race saw various twists and challenges, including a red flag caused by a power outage in the pits early on, halting the competition for over two hours. Porsche initially dominated the night-time running, building a significant lead over the BMW. However, as Sunday dawned, BMW mounted a remarkable comeback, gradually closing in on the leading Porsche.

The intense competition was not limited to the front of the pack, as the battle for third place provided its share of drama. The #28 Abt Lamborghini held a strong position for a podium finish until a driveshaft failure in the final moments of the race dashed their hopes. This misfortune allowed the #54 Dinamic Porsche to claim the third spot on the podium.

The Nurburgring 24 Hours race delivered thrills, spills, and unexpected outcomes, showcasing the resilience and determination of the competing teams. BMW’s triumph in the face of adversity cements their status as a force to be reckoned with in the world of endurance racing.
