Sky Sports F1, the television channel, recently conducted a survey among over 4,000 fans to determine the ultimate Formula 1 track for the 2024 season. This track, called ‘The Best Track on Earth’, was revealed on Monday. The track layout selection process involved collecting data from 2,005 sports enthusiasts, including 1,459 F1 fans, in the UK and Republic of Ireland from January 10th to 17th. Additionally, opinions were collected from 2,033 fans in the Sky Sports F1 social community between January 8th and 10th. Once the most popular features of various F1 circuits were identified through the survey, Sky Sports collaborated with the AI platform Midjourney to create a cohesive layout incorporating these elements. The AI-generated images were then applied to a realistic track model and, with the help of 3D designers, visual effects designers, and artists, ‘The Best Track on Earth’ came to life. This 6 km track configuration incorporates elements from renowned circuits such as Circuit of the Americas (COTA), Silverstone, Baku, and others.
When the race begins, the cars accelerate uphill towards Turn 1 at COTA. They then pass through a pair of famous Italian corners, starting with Monza’s Parabolica and followed by Imola’s Acque Minerali.
After the Italian influence, the circuit incorporates elements of Monaco, including the Piscine and Grand Hotel Hairpin sections. It then takes on the iconic Eau Rouge to Raidillon section from the Spa-Francorchamps circuit.
Departing from high-speed corners, the layout twists and turns through Baku’s castle section before passing through Silverstone’s Maggots, Becketts, and Chapel Curve. Finally, it concludes with Suzuka’s famous Esses.
The last sector of the 6 km lap begins with the Brabham, Jones sequence from Albert Park and ends with the Senna ‘S’ from Interlagos and the final banked corner at the finish line.
In addition to determining ‘The Best Track on Earth’, Sky Sports also gathered various other information about Formula 1.
According to the survey, the COTA Observation Tower and the Suzuka Ferris wheel were the most popular landmarks that fans would like to see on a hypothetical track. Both received 48% of the votes in the final survey results.
The Italian Tifosi were identified as the most passionate fans, with 39% of the votes. They were followed by the British contingent with 28% and the Dutch Orange Army with 11%.
Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton emerged as the ultimate driver, receiving 28% of the votes.
“The most enjoyable aspects of Formula 1 are the passionate fans, the variety of circuits around the world, and the unique challenges they present. Therefore, the use of AI by Sky Sports to create the ultimate track really sparks the imagination,” said Jenson Button, 2009 Formula 1 world champion and Sky Sports F1 commentator.
