The Formula 1 grid will see a familiar yet refreshed name in 2025, as the Red Bull sister team undergoes another rebranding—this time emerging as Racing Bulls. Following its somewhat clunky stint as Visa Cash App RB (VCARB) during the 2024 season, the Faenza-based outfit is streamlining its identity to connect better with fans and avoid confusion.
Why the Change?
Since its inception, the team has carried multiple names, including Toro Rosso, AlphaTauri, and, originally, Minardi before Red Bull’s acquisition. In 2024, the team’s name, Visa Cash App RB, proved cumbersome for commentators and fans alike, often abbreviated to VCARB or RB. However, these monikers frequently created confusion, with some mistaking it for the main Red Bull Racing team.
Peter Bayer, CEO of Racing Bulls, explained the motivation behind the rebranding:
“We’ve struggled to make it clear what the team name is, and there have been so many versions. Ultimately, people are calling us Racing Bulls anyway—it’s our company name. The abbreviation RB caused confusion with Red Bull Racing, so we decided to simplify and embrace Racing Bulls as our public-facing identity.”
The New Identity
The official name for 2025 will be Visa Cash App Racing Bulls, reflecting its title sponsors, but the team will universally market itself as Racing Bulls. The VCARB abbreviation will remain for internal use, while the chassis name for the upcoming season, VCARB02, follows the precedent set by its 2024 car, VCARB01.
This decision aligns with the team’s focus on targeting younger audiences, leveraging a sleek, engaging identity that resonates with F1’s rapidly growing, tech-savvy fanbase. By leaning into the Racing Bulls name, the team aims to carve out its own space in the sport while retaining ties to its parent company, Red Bull.
What Stays the Same?
While the name evolves, much of the team’s foundation remains intact:
- Title sponsors Visa and Cash App will continue to play a critical role in funding the team’s operations.
- The team’s Italian headquarters in Faenza will remain its home base, carrying forward the legacy of its predecessors.
- The 2025 car, VCARB02, will continue to adhere to the naming convention introduced in 2024.
Looking Ahead
The rebranding to Racing Bulls reflects more than just a cosmetic change; it’s part of a broader strategy to simplify the team’s messaging, attract younger fans, and establish a strong, independent identity. With its new name, Racing Bulls enters 2025 poised to build on its performance, secure its place in F1 lore, and deliver exciting racing under a banner that’s as bold and dynamic as its ambitions.
