Racing Bulls’ Liam Lawson on Brink of Suspension: 6 Penalty Points in 2025

MIAMI, FLORIDA - MAY 04: Peter Bayer, CEO of Visa Cash App Racing Bulls and Liam Lawson of New Zealand and Visa Cash App Racing Bulls walk in the Paddock prior to the F1 Grand Prix of Miami at Miami International Autodrome on May 04, 2025 in Miami, Florida. In a shocking turn of events, racing prodigy Lawson has accumulated six penalty points, leaving him on thin ice until December. The young New Zealander’s season has taken a dark turn, plagued by mishaps and misfortunes that threaten to derail his career.

Despite the early setback of Red Bull’s demotion to Racing Bulls after just two Grand Prix, Lawson has failed to impress, still sitting at zero points while his teammate Isack Hadjar has managed to secure five points in six races. The pressure is mounting on Lawson as he not only struggles on the track but also faces disciplinary issues.

During the Miami Sprint, Lawson found himself penalized once again for an incident that saw him deemed “predominantly responsible” for a collision that took out Fernando Alonso. This incident not only cost Lawson valuable positions on the track but also earned him a penalty of 5 seconds and an additional penalty point.

With a total of six penalty points to his name, Lawson is inching closer to the threshold of 12 points, which would result in a one-race ban. The young driver has been no stranger to controversy, with all his previous penalties stemming from on-track incidents. The specter of disqualification looms large over Lawson, reminiscent of Kevin Magnussen’s suspension last season.

As Lawson navigates the treacherous waters of professional racing, his every move will be scrutinized, knowing that one wrong move could spell the end of his season. Will he be able to turn the tide and redeem himself, or is he destined to face the consequences of his reckless driving? Only time will tell in this high-stakes game of speed and skill.
