The duel between Lancia and Audi in the 1983 World Rally Championship, a season in which the Italian brand’s 037 faced off against the Audi Quattro, arrives in Portuguese cinemas today.
At the center of the story is Cesare Fiorio, team manager of the Lancia Rally Team, and German driver Walter Röhrl, who joined the Italian team in 1983 and went on to achieve an extraordinary result, winning the last World Rally Championship for a two-wheel drive vehicle.
Packed with the adrenaline experienced throughout that season, the script of “Race to Glory” drew on the accounts of Cesare Fiorio himself, who revealed some of the secrets of what really happened during that year. Additionally, the European production used authentic vintage cars and created custom race tracks to depict the speed and drama of rallying. The Portugal stage, which took place in the early days of March 1983, is well represented in the film.
With 15 World Rally Championship titles, Lancia remains the most successful manufacturer of all time in the world of rallying.
