After a breakthrough season that saw Justin Allgaier clinch his long-awaited Xfinity Series Championship, JR Motorsports is doubling down on its momentum for 2025. Team owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. has assembled a formidable lineup for the No. 9 Chevrolet, enlisting Ross Chastain and Shane van Gisbergen (SVG) for nine part-time races. With proven track records and a knack for winning on some of NASCAR’s most challenging circuits, the duo could be the secret weapon JRM needs to dominate the season.

The Dynamic Duo: Chastain and SVG

JR Motorsports isn’t just adding names; it’s adding firepower. Ross Chastain, a five-time NASCAR Cup Series winner and fan-favorite known for his audacious “Hail Melon” move, is set to pilot the No. 9 Chevrolet at circuits where his record speaks for itself:

  • Circuit of The Americas (COTA): 1 win, 4.0 average finish.
  • Nashville Superspeedway: 1 win, 10.3 average finish.
  • Iowa Speedway: A solid 11th-place finish in 2024 despite starting 17th.

Meanwhile, Shane van Gisbergen, the three-time Supercars champion turned NASCAR sensation, is no stranger to high-pressure racing. After bursting onto the scene with a win in his Cup Series debut at the 2023 Chicago Street Course, SVG delivered again in 2024 with victories at Portland, Chicago, and Sonoma in the Xfinity Series.

In 2025, SVG will take the wheel at circuits where his road-racing expertise can shine:

  • Mexico City: NASCAR’s first points-paying international race.
  • Chicago Street Course and Sonoma: Familiar territory for the defending winner.
  • Watkins Glen: A track where he nearly triumphed with a 2nd-place finish in 2024.

Dale Jr.’s Winning Vision

Dale Earnhardt Jr. has left no room for ambiguity about his expectations. In a lighthearted yet clear tweet, Dale Jr. responded to Ross Chastain’s excitement with a simple:
“🏆 ⏰”—a clear message that victories are expected, not optional.

For Earnhardt, the combination of Chastain’s aggression and SVG’s precision creates a potent mix that could give JRM an edge in the Xfinity Series.

“JR Motorsports is one of the top teams, and they won the championship with Justin Allgaier,” said SVG. “I’m trying to get as much experience as I can. I can’t wait to get started.”

A Powerhouse Lineup for 2025

The No. 9 car is just part of JRM’s strategy for 2025. In select races, the team will field five cars, with Carson Kvapil, Justin Allgaier, and Connor Zilisch joining Chastain and SVG in a stacked roster. This multi-car approach showcases JRM’s commitment to both veteran dominance and fostering young talent.

The Melon Man and the Supercar King: A Winning Formula?

While the spotlight is on SVG and Chastain, the synergy between their distinct racing styles could define the season. Chastain’s no-holds-barred aggression complements SVG’s technical brilliance, particularly on road courses. Together, they bring the kind of versatility that few teams can match.

SVG’s comment about preparation says it all:
“With people like Dale Jr., Justin Allgaier, and Ross around, I know I’m in the right place to learn and win.”

Chastain, ever confident, added:
“It should be fun, Dale Jr.!“

But fun isn’t the only goal—Dale Jr. is eyeing trophies, and these two drivers have the pedigree to deliver.

Why It Matters

This bold move by JRM underscores their ambition to not only remain competitive but dominate. By combining Cup Series-caliber drivers with a proven championship-winning operation, JRM is raising the stakes for the 2025 Xfinity Series. The addition of international flair with SVG and raw NASCAR talent in Chastain ensures that all eyes will be on the No. 9 Chevrolet this season.
