Fabio Quartararo Dominates Qualifying to Secure Third Consecutive Pole Position as Marc Marquez Falters at British Grand Prix
French rider Fabio Quartararo showcased his dominance once again by clinching his third consecutive pole position of the 2025 MotoGP season at the British Grand Prix in Silverstone. The championship leader Marc Marquez, on the other hand, faced disappointment as he missed out on the front row.
Despite challenging weather conditions with overnight rain and cooler track temperatures compared to Friday, Quartararo managed to set a scorching new lap record of 1m57.233s. He will be joined on the front row by Alex Marquez and Pecco Bagnaia, with Bagnaia outqualifying his Ducati teammate for the first time this season.
In a dramatic turn of events, Marc Marquez initially led after the early laps in Q2 but failed to put together a competitive lap on his second rear tire. A crash by Johann Zarco disrupted his final attempt, leaving Marquez in 4th place on the grid.
The grid for the British GP is set with Quartararo in pole position, followed by A. Marquez and Bagnaia. The rest of the top 10 grid positions are filled by Aldeguer, Miller, Di Giannantonio, Marini, Zarco, Morbidelli, and Bezzecchi.
Notably, Joan Mir was the fastest among those who missed out on Q2, closely followed by his teammate Marini. Pedro Acosta and Miguel Oliveira also showcased strong performances in Q1, securing 14th and 15th positions, respectively.
The intense qualifying session also saw Maverick Vinales causing yellow flags with his KTM, affecting the laps of other riders. Enea Bastianini capitalized on the opportunity to outqualify Vinales for the first time this season by a mere 0.001s.
Overall, the qualifying session at the British Grand Prix set the stage for an electrifying race day, with Quartararo aiming to extend his championship lead and Marquez looking to make a strong comeback from a challenging qualifying performance.
