After 25 years, Mercedes-Benz has ended production of the smart Fortwo. The last model, a fully electric Fortwo Cabrio, rolled off the production line at the factory in France at the end of March.
“According to the plans, production of the current two-seater models, smart EQ Fortwo Coupé and Cabrio, will end at the end of March 2024,” a company spokesperson revealed to the German newspaper “Der Spiegel.”
The well-known two-seater model was initially designed as an electric vehicle in the 1990s, but later expanded to include a combustion engine model. Millions of units were built.
In 2019, Mercedes created a joint venture with Geely to manage smart. In the same year, the brand ended production of combustion models and smart became the first European brand of electric cars.
It is worth noting that smart currently has an electric crossover, the new smart #1, as well as the smart #3, a coupe that has just arrived in the national market.
