Polestar has revealed that it has started production of the new Polestar 3, the first SUV from the Swedish brand, at the factory in Chengdu, China.
At the same time, the brand has completed the first production tests at the South Carolina factory in the United States, where the Polestar 3 will also be produced from mid-2024, thus supporting the company’s growth ambitions in North America, Europe, and Asia.
Continuing with Polestar’s expansion plan, after the launch of the 2, the Swedish brand is now moving forward with an electric SUV, which features a dual-motor configuration. The base version comes with 490 hp of power and 840 Nm of maximum torque. With the optional Performance Pack, the Polestar 3 enhances dynamics and offers a power of 517 hp and a torque of 910 Nm.
Powering the two electric motors of the Polestar 3 is a 111 kWh lithium-ion battery that provides a range of up to 610 km. The Swedish brand has announced that the 100% electric SUV comes standard with a heating pump, which contributes to pre-conditioning the climate control and the battery, and that the Polestar 3 also has bidirectional charging capability.
For greater efficiency, the Polestar 3 is equipped with a deactivation function for the rear electric motor, allowing it to be driven solely by the front electric motor.
“This stunning car takes a significant step forward, with the start of production marking an important milestone for our company, which will go from one to three models this year. We are also getting ready at the Ridgeville factory in South Carolina, so we are on track to start manufacturing the Polestar 3 in the US,” said Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar, in a statement.
It should be noted that the Polestar 3 will be available in Portugal starting at €94,900, and the first deliveries are scheduled for the second quarter of 2024.
