It’s another race week for the FIA Formula E, and after an exciting and action-packed weekend in Berlin, Formula E is making its first return to China since 2019. Beijing was the location of the inaugural Formula E race in 2014, which featured a dramatic last-lap crash involving former Formula 1 driver Nick Heidfeld and Nico Prost, son of Alain Prost. Lucas di Grassi emerged victorious, crossing the finish line in first place.
One driver who will arrive in China with a sense of optimism is Nick Cassidy, who had a fantastic weekend in Berlin, claiming a sensational victory in the first race and a podium in the second race. As a result, he now holds a 16-point advantage over Pascal Wehrlein in the Drivers’ Championship.
Reflecting on his performance in Berlin, Cassidy emphasized the importance of scoring as many points as possible, even if it means not always fighting for wins. “I realized that in these races, if you don’t take risks, you quickly fall behind,” he said. “So, I need to maintain the same mentality. When I was aggressive and decisive, it worked, so I will continue in that way.”
“I believe I have a good understanding of the situation, I take calculated risks, and I am assertive on track. I just need to keep this approach. I have learned a lot in the past year and a half, and I am determined to apply these lessons to every race weekend,” he added.
THE CIRCUIT
The track for this event is a modified version of the Shanghai International Circuit, famous for hosting the Chinese Grand Prix. The long back straight has been eliminated, and instead, cars will navigate through turn nine, with a chicane marking the end of the lap. This change means that the final turn is now a right-hand turn, departing from the usual left-hand turn pattern. The length of the Formula E circuit in Shanghai is 3.051km, and the Attack Mode activation zone is located between the first and second turns.
