After a week of recovering from the excitement of Misano, the FIA Formula E is back, and Formula E arrives in Monaco amidst discussions about driver groups, mid-season testing, and… throttle damper springs?

It was many hours after the race that Antonio Felix da Costa was disqualified, the jumpsuit in which he performed a celebratory backflip into a nearby pool was already dry. Our hearts go out to da Costa, who may not even be wearing Porsche jumpsuits next season, especially considering the nature of his disqualification. But rules are rules, and everyone will now be inspecting their throttle damper springs more carefully than before.

The return to street racing will result in fewer group races this weekend, but with over 100 overtakes in last year’s corresponding race, there is no doubt that there will be plenty of fun on offer. And with the entire race weekend packed into a single busy Saturday, it will be a delight for fans.

THE CIRCUIT

The 3.337 km circuit is the most famous street circuit in the world, and since 2022, Formula E has been using the same layout as Formula 1. However, in FE, the likelihood of overtaking is much higher, with over 100 overtakes recorded last year. The Attack Mode is positioned at Casino Square corner.

All the weekend’s action is condensed into a single day, Saturday, May 27th. FP1 takes place at 6:25 AM, FP2 at 8:05 AM, qualifying at 9:40 AM, and the race starts at 2:03 PM [all in British Summer Time].

WEATHER

Race day is expected to reach a cool temperature of 15 degrees, with periods of sunshine, slightly cooler than most race weekends in Monaco.

LAST YEAR

Nick Cassidy hopes to replicate his victory from last year, crossing the finish line from ninth on the grid. Mitch Evans made it a 1-2 for New Zealand, with Jake Dennis maintaining his consistency with third place. Pole-sitter Jake Hughes finished fifth, with Sacha Fenestraz, who joined him on the front row of the grid, in fourth. Following an impressive performance in Misano, ERT’s Dan Ticktum is well placed to match his sixth position from 2023.
