After a long hiatus, the FIA Formula E World Championship returns this weekend, and the previous race in Shanghai gave Nick Cassidy of Jaguar TCS Racing a comfortable 25-point lead over Pascal Wehrlein of Tag Heuer Porsche. Although many consider it to be a two-driver contest, with Mitch Evans in third place, 35 points behind, and Oliver Rowland just one point behind, there are still four races left, making it risky to underestimate any competitor who still has a mathematical chance of winning the championship.

After all, we’re talking about Formula E.

THE TRACK

The Portland International Raceway, with just over two kilometers in length and 12 turns, will host a Formula E race for the second time, and possibly the last. The circuit layout, similar to last year’s, promises an intense race similar to a pack, but since this year’s event is a double-header, the second race is expected to be a bit calmer.

There has already been confusion surrounding the event, as a planned temporary chicane near the pit entry was removed due to safety concerns. As a result, teams had to update their track data for simulators to accommodate the changes for the 2023 season.

SCHEDULE

The action begins in the early hours of Saturday, at the following BST times:

29/06:

Free Practice 1: 00:55-01:45

Free Practice 2: 15:25-16:15

Qualifying: 17:40-19:03

Race: 22:03-23:30

30/06:

Free Practice 3: 15:25-16:15

Qualifying: 17:40-19:03

Race: 22:03-23:30

WEATHER

Both Saturday and Sunday should have an average temperature of 27 degrees, with Saturday being slightly cloudier than Sunday.

PREVIOUS RACE

Nick Cassidy will be looking to repeat last year’s performance, where he secured the victory by just two tenths of a second ahead of Jake Dennis. Antonio Felix da Costa finished in third place, with just over two seconds separating the top six drivers.
