Porsche’s Bold Move: Gabriela Jílková and Marta García to Lead All-Female Formula E Test

In a significant statement of intent, Porsche has announced that Gabriela Jílková and Marta García will spearhead the all-female Formula E test at Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia next month, driving the 99X Electric. This marks a progressive step toward increasing female representation in motorsport and showcases the German manufacturer’s dedication to diversity and inclusion.

For Jílková, this test is a natural progression. She has previously worked with Porsche, serving as a simulator and development driver during last year’s test in Valencia, where she completed 43 laps while also competing in the GT4 European Series. Her familiarity with the 99X Electric car positions her as a seasoned contender for this groundbreaking initiative.

García, meanwhile, brings an impressive résumé to the table. The Spanish driver participated in the 2023 rookie test and went on to clinch the inaugural F1 Academy title. She is currently racing in the Formula Regional European by Alpine series, and her close ties with Iron Dames, a project committed to increasing women’s participation in motorsport, further highlight the importance of this test.

Porsche’s Push for Diversity

Florian Modlinger, Director of Factory Motorsport Formula E, underscored the significance of this move for both Porsche and the sport. “At Porsche, we firmly believe that diverse teams are more successful. To that extent, we are very happy to support Formula E’s initiative,” he said, emphasizing the dual benefit of giving both women drivers invaluable experience while gaining further insights from their performances.

Modlinger praised Jílková and García, stating that the team’s pre-season preparations could only improve with the contributions of these two talented drivers. He also emphasized that this initiative aligns with Porsche’s long-term goal of creating more inclusive motorsport environments.

Drivers Ready for the Challenge

Both Jílková and García expressed their excitement at being selected for this historic test. Jílková, who has driven the 99X Electric before, is eager to see how the car performs this time around. “I’m really happy that I get to drive the Porsche 99X Electric again. It is always an honour to represent the Porsche works team,” she said. “It goes without saying that I am also pleased to be part of the first Formula E test sessions specifically for women.”

García, who will be testing at her home track, sees this as an important learning experience. “I’m incredibly grateful to Porsche and the Iron Dames for this opportunity. I can’t wait to drive the 99X Electric – and on my fantastic home track as well,” she said.

A Step Forward for Women in Motorsport

This all-female test represents a significant moment not just for Porsche but for motorsport as a whole. With initiatives like these, the future looks promising for women aiming to break through in male-dominated motorsport categories. By giving these talented drivers the opportunity to test in top-tier equipment, Porsche is reinforcing its commitment to promoting diversity while strengthening its own competitive edge in the Formula E arena.

As Season 11 of Formula E approaches, this test could mark a pivotal moment for women drivers looking to make their mark on the global stage.
