Porsche pronta para o tempo úmido em Imola

With the possibility of imminent precipitation in Imola, the site of the next round of the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2024, Porsche is fully equipped to handle any wet conditions that may arise. Jonathan Diuguid, managing director of Porsche Penske Motorsport, expressed the team’s readiness during a press call before the race. Diuguid acknowledged that while drivers may have different opinions, he believes that racing in the rain adds excitement and allows drivers to showcase their skills. He assured that Porsche is prepared and eagerly awaits the challenge.

Both Matt Campbell and Kevin Estre, drivers of the Porsche factory cars #5 and #6, respectively, echoed their boss’s sentiments. Campbell expressed enthusiasm for racing in the rain, emphasizing that it adds a new dimension to the competition, especially on a demanding track like Imola. He anticipated a challenging race with potential for yellow flags and safety cars, but believed it would create an exciting mix. Estre, on the other hand, acknowledged the fun aspect of racing in wet conditions, but also recognized the risks involved. He noted that rain can spice up the race or ruin it, depending on the team’s performance in dry conditions. However, he expressed willingness to face whatever conditions arise.

If rain makes an appearance in Imola, Porsche may have an advantage over its competitors, as they have already conducted tests in wet conditions at the circuit earlier in the year. Diuguid acknowledged that while it was initially disappointing to have rain during their tests at a new circuit, he believes that Imola’s characteristics, such as its old layout, prominent kerbs, and undulations, will create a distinct and challenging dynamic for the drivers.

When it comes to Porsche’s specific preparation for rainy conditions, Diuguid expressed confidence due to the consistent training of the team’s drivers from 2023 to 2024. He highlighted that all drivers had the opportunity to race or test in the rain, allowing them to adapt to the unique demands of rain tires, especially the Michelin rain tires for the Hypercars. Diuguid concluded by stating that the drivers are well prepared for the challenges that wet conditions may present.
