Porsche Unveils Stunning One-Off 993 Speedster at Monterey Car Week

In a remarkable display of craftsmanship and customization, Porsche has debuted a one-off 993 Speedster at Monterey Car Week, a vehicle that has never officially existed until now. Commissioned by Italian designer Luca Trazzi, this unique creation marks the first one-off restoration from Porsche’s prestigious Sonderwunsch department, known for making special wishes come true for its most elite clients.

The Sonderwunsch program, which translates to “special wishes,” has long been a way for Porsche to cater to the specific desires of its most dedicated enthusiasts. Trazzi, an avid collector of Porsche Speedsters, envisioned a 993 variant that Porsche never formally produced. Until now, only three 993 Speedsters were known to exist, built for the likes of Ferry Porsche and Jerry Seinfeld, as well as one from a factory restoration. Trazzi’s commission adds a fourth to this exclusive list.

Trazzi was intimately involved in the design process, collaborating with Porsche to create this bespoke model. The car is based on a 993 Carrera Cabriolet but features several unique elements, including a custom cut-down windshield, a redesigned rear decklid, and striking black 18-inch Turbo twist wheels with body-colored pinstriping. The interior boasts yellow-and-black checkered-flag trim on the seats and retro-styled mirrors, while the headlights sport the signature four-dot running light design seen on modern Porsche models. The car is painted in a distinctive yellow shade named after Trazzi’s dog, Otto.

Further enhancing the car’s uniqueness are trim pieces inspired by the 993 Turbo, including the front spoiler, side skirts, and rear quarter panels. The sharkfin rock protector ahead of the rear wheels pays homage to the original 911 Speedster of 1989. Under the hood, the car is powered by a 3.8-liter flat-six engine from the 993 Carrera RS, delivering an impressive 300 horsepower.

Before heading back to Europe for Trazzi to take final delivery, the 993 Speedster is being showcased at Monterey Car Week. During the build process, Porsche granted Trazzi the rare privilege of witnessing the bare bodyshell get galvanized and even allowed him to apply some of the paint himself.

Porsche’s Sonderwunsch program has been around for decades, customizing production models and creating special one-offs. However, this project marks a significant milestone as the first one-off restoration for a private customer under the formalized process. With prices starting at $100,000 and quickly escalating, this bespoke creation represents the pinnacle of personalized automotive luxury, making it the ultimate Porsche for those who truly want something no one else can have.
