After the Macan gasoline, Porsche will stop producing the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman for Europe, as the models do not comply with the new cybersecurity regulations that will come into effect next July.
Despite these two versions of the 718 being discontinued in European markets, the Cayman GT4 RS and the Boxster RS Spyder will continue to be sold in Europe as they are limited editions.
The problem for the end of the line in Europe for the 718 Boxster and Cayman lies in the electrical architecture used, and adapting the two models to the law would cost Porsche approximately half of the budget used for a completely new model, which is not financially viable.
Remember that the next generation of the 718 will be 100% electric and is expected to hit the market in 2025. The arrival of the electric model does not mean, however, the end of the current gasoline models, as both will coexist for an indefinite period.
