This week strong rumors emerged about Madrid being able to host the Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix from 2026, on a semi-permanent circuit in the city center. However, there seems to be no unanimity in the Madrid Assembly – despite the support of the President of the Community, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, and the President of the municipality, José Luis Martínez-Almeida.
According to the website PlanetF1.com, the PSOE criticizes the lack of thought for the city’s needs. Juan Lobato points out in particular that the area in question in Madrid will have the F1 ‘before a medical center, institute, or exchange’.
Isabel Díaz Ayuso justified herself by emphasizing that the investment and the project come from private entities. The estimated economic impact is 500 million euros per year, which ensures the support of local government officials.
