Polestar announced that it has signed an agreement with the South Korean battery manufacturer, SK On, for the supply of battery cell modules for the Polestar 5, the Swedish brand’s 4-door electric GT model, which is expected to be officially launched in 2024.
The Swedish manufacturer has stated that the choice of SK On is justified due to its battery cell technology capable of offering high-performance chemistry, fast charging, efficient discharge, and superior range. The battery cell modules have a high nickel content and are composed of ultralong cells measuring 56 cm with high energy density.
“Our relationship with SK On has been fruitful following the initial memorandum and their investment in our brand. We have been developing the Polestar 5 at a good pace, and these high-capacity batteries will provide the performance we expect for our GT.”, emphasized Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar.
It is worth noting that the 4-door electric GT with 884 hp is announced by Polestar as an evolution of the Precept, a prototype presented in 2022, and made its dynamic debut this year at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the United Kingdom.
